1350 - "THE MÖNCHSTEIN" was first known as "Tetelheimer Tower".

1531 - Virgil Fröschlmoser built the Meyerhaus, stables, a barn and a chapel onto the castle. He also built a stone tower onto the crag and, shortly afterwards, a cistern .

1622 - The castle was sold to the Mülln convent. "Archbishop Paris Lodron" had many fortresses built, such as the Monika fort, Augustiner fort and the train bridge.

1654 - The monastery of St. Peter acquired the ownership for the "Educated Professoris men" to "recovery of the difficult thinking work". It was then called the "Professors castle". On 3rd August 1661 large celebrations were held to mark the opening of the chapel. The present tower room was used as an astronomical observatory. 1815 - ... with a belt for guest hospitality; the Princess of Liechtenstein had "her stone bench" to enjoy the view over Salzburg and the poet Alexander von Humboldt written with great delight about this "piece of paradise" in the Mozart city. 1895 - ... was acquired by the city council and existed until the 2nd World War; only then was it moved to the inner crags.

1948 - The castle was turned into a hotel.

1956 - The von Mierka family acquired the ownership and renovated it into the only 5-star hotel in the city.

1984 - Dr. Klaus Besser adds "Mönchstein" to the list of "100 best hotels in Europe".

1984 - "Hideaway Report" presents the hotel with the grand award "most enchanting hotel in the world".

1986 - Awarded the distinction "American Gold Star for Quality" from B.I.D. - USA.

1988 -
The hotel became a member of "Relais & Chateau" - the "best hotel chain in the world".

1989 - Celebrations get underway for the opening of the "Salzburg Wedding Wall", and 3 years later, the "Castle Christening Register".

1993 - The "PARIS LODRON" restaurant is awarded "2 rosettes from Gault Millau", therefore being awarded best restaurant in the city of Salzburg.

1995 - The 500th wedding couple exchange vows in the castles' chapel.

1996 - HOTEL SCHLOSS MÖNCHSTEIN SALZBURG***** becomes a founder member of the European Castle Hotels.

1997 - Opening of the "Mönchstein Panorama Route", which leads to the Mönchsberg-Old Town-Lift..

2000 -
The ownership of the hotel switches to the Gabrielli-Schwarz.

2003 -
The hotel is renovated with an eye for detail and outright admiration for the traditional castle design. The sparkling renovation are finished in time for the festival.

2004 -
received a star award from the Trade and Commerce centre in Austria - Hotellerie 2004.

2005 - Change of ownership

2008 - Opening of the spa area Mönchstein SPA
